The County Governor of Hedmark, The freshwater fish administration

I am a freshwater ecologist with special topics on fish. I have for several years been working as a freshwater researcher at NIVA, conducting environmental assessments on e.g. hydropower plants, environmental contaminants and pollution as well as electric or hydroacoustic measurements of fish populations in rivers and lakes. At my current position at the County Governor I have responsibility of the management of vulnerable populations of freshwater fish and fish in regulated lakes/rivers.

My role in SUSTAIN

One of my projects during the last 10-12 years have been growth analysis of the piscivorous “Hunder trout” included in the freshwater case ecosystem “Mjøsa”. This has resulted in a dataset on 10 000 individs giving us individual growth histories, year-specific growth patterns, age and size at maturity, age and growth through first spawning run and repeated spawning runs between the river Gudbrandsdalslågen and Lake Mjøsa. As climate changes may have major environmental consequences, we hope that SUSTAIN will produce both knowledge and tools to optimize our management strategies for the “Hunder trout” along with other comparable populations at risk
