Norwegian Polar Institute

Background

I am a senior researcher at the Biodiversity section at the Norwegian Polar Institute in Tromsø. I am the project leader of two national monitoring programs in Svalbard 1. for arctic foxes that started in 1993, and 2. for the svalbard rock ptarmigan that started in 2000. My research focus is on population dynamics, ecosystem interactions and management options on arctic tundra.

My role in SUSTAIN

I am part of the Svalbard study case focusing on harvest and climate effects on the resident species in Svalbard – arctic fox, Svalbard rock ptarmigan and Svalbard reindeer. My contribution will be to provide long-term datasets for studies of interacting effects from climate and harvest on the Svalbard rock ptarmigan and the arctic fox. I will also provide my competence on the terrestrial Svalbard ecosystem and insight into local management and stakeholders.
